I found these online and I thought they were adorable. So I decided to make my own. It is a bit less than perfect than the other ones out there but it is my first. I did not get pics of the beginning but I will get them as a new one. :) Let me know if anything needs additional explaining. Thanks!
You will need
3/8in clothesline (I bought mine at Walmart 50 feet for $3.00)
Fabric (can be scraps or matching) Torn or cut into approx 1in strips no need to be perfect
Sewing Machine
Chip Clip or binder clip to hold the loose fabric as you sew
First you will need to gather strips that are approx 1in wide and as long as they can be. I cut a few then went and cut a few more. But you can try and guesstimate how many it will take.
Then you will take one strip of fabric and fold it over the clothesline and start wrapping it in a spiral to keep the tip snug. (This will be the bottom center of your bowl)
Then you will need to start Wrapping the fabric about 6in to a foot down the line and hold it there with a chip clip ( Once you run out tuck the new strip under the last inch of the last then wrap around to secure)
Once you have it started you will fold the end piece over like pictured about a half inch should be folded over. This is where you will start sewing.
You will use the zig zag stitch and keep coiling untill you reach your desired base size. Then you start to build up the sides by stacking your coils.
If you want to add handles you will sew until you are almost to the desired depth. When you are ready for the handles you will stop sewing and build up the handle and where the handle meets the base you will begin to sew again. Go around the bowl like you have until you are directly across from the first handle and sew your second. To reinforce the handles you will sew a second layer on top of them.
When you are done and happy with your bowl you will tuck the end of the string into the bowl and sew it into the bowl.
And finished.
Let me know if any of it was hard to understand or if you have any questions!
